Audition Information

Auditions in the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra are open to all members of the William & Mary community. All prospective and returning members must audition for a place in the ensemble.

Fall 2024 Auditions will be held in the Music Building at the following times: (*Please note that morning auditions are held in the Concert Hall, while afternoon auditions are held in Room 116.)

Wednesday, August 28 – Concert Hall, 9am-11:50am; Room 116, 2:00pm-6pm
Thursday, August 29 – Concert Hall, 9am-12pm; Room 116, 1pm-6pm
Friday, August 30 – Concert Hall, 9am-12pm; Room 116, 1pm-6pm
Saturday, August 31 – Concert Hall, 9am-12pm; Room 116, 1pm-6pm

Each audition will last no more than 15 minutes and consists of:

  • A solo work for your instrument, not to exceed 5 minutes (ex. sonata, concerto, etude, etc.).
  • Orchestral excerpts (posted as PDFs below) for your instrument.

Auditions for auxiliary instruments are welcome but not required, unless new members would like to demonstrate special proficiency (ex. piccolo, english horn, bass clarinet, E clar., contrabassoon, etc.).
