Competition Requirements
Each candidate will receive 15 minutes of performance time and must:
- Make appropriate cuts if the work exceeds 15 minutes.
- Provide an accompanist. You are responsible for finding your own and will be disqualified if you do not have one at the competition.
- Provide 3 copies of the score (full score preferred, but piano reductions accepted).
- Memorization is required only for the final performance with WMSO in March but strongly encouraged for the competition.
The application form must be completed and returned to Professor Grandis’ mailbox in the Music Department by 6pm on Thursday, October 23. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. You will be notified if your application has been approved shortly after the deadline.
The winner(s) of the Concerto Competition will have the opportunity to perform their concerto with the symphony orchestra! This performance will take place during the Concerto Concert in March. Memorization is required only for the final performance with WMSO in March but strongly encouraged for the competition.
The competition performances are unlikely to be open to the public this year. However, the Music Department often hosts an Applied Music Recital just before the competition where many competitiors choose to perform their pieces. Information about the recital has not been announced.
