Membership in the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra is open by audition to all members of the William & Mary community. All new and returning members are required to audition.
Auditions for Fall 2023 will be held in the New Concert Hall on the following dates and times. Please note that Wednesday August 30th will take place in a different location, and is reserved for returning Wind players who want to participate in WMSO and WMWE, as well as new players who are deciding between the two ensembles.
Wednesday, August 30th, 9am-10pm, 11am-Noon, 1pm-6pm in Orchestra Rehearsal Room M116- Reserved for potential WMWE students. This day is for returning students who want to participate in both WMSO and WMWE, as well as new students who are deciding between the two ensembles.
Thursday, August 31st, Room M116, 9am-12pm, 1pm-6pm Friday, Sept 1st, Room M116, 9am-10am, 11am-Noon, 1pm-6pm Saturday, Sept 2nd, Room M116, 9am-12pm, 1pm-6pm(Please write your full name, email, and instrument under your desired date and timeslot. Do not edit anyone else’s entry!)
Each audition will last no more than 15 minutes and consists of:
- A selection of a solo work for your instrument (sonata, concerto, etude, etc.) which should not exceed 5 minutes.
- Orchestral excerpts for your instrument, posted as PDFs.
- There is no need to bring auxiliary instruments (piccolo, english horn, bass clarinet, E♭ clar., contrabassoon, etc.) unless new members desire to show special proficiency.
- For Trombone, Tuba, Timpani/Percussion and Harp: No excerpt PDFs- players should only bring musical excerpts of their choice which demonstrate their abilities.
