Audition Information

Membership in the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra is open by audition to all members of the William & Mary community. All new and returning members are required to audition.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social restrictions imposed to curtail it, the Spring 2021 season will look a bit different for the orchestra. All rehearsals will now take place in Unity Hall (formerly Trinkle Hall, located inside Campus Center) to allow for appropriate physical distancing. All musicians will be required to wear masks during rehearsal; wind musicians will be provided special masks by the university to accommodate their needs. Please note that due to the phased return of the student body, audition dates have been delayed from late January to mid-February.

If you are a returning member, you are not required to audition. Please email Dr. Grandis at to inform him of your return to the orchestra in the Spring.

New members are still required to audition. If you interested in becoming a new member, please contact Dr. Grandis at with your name, instrument, and any desired dates/times prior to February 5th, 2020. Auditions will be conducted via Zoom.

Each audition will require potential members to prepare a solo piece of their choosing. Chosen audition material should reflect the skill and ability of the auditionee.

Please contact Dr. Grandis at for any questions regarding the audition procedure.
